"When I first started in the early seventies, drag and being gay was so underground, we did anything to avoid being seen in public. We'd get dressed up and take a cab down to the 511, but if there were people on Yonge Street, we'd have to dash behind the club `till the coast was clear, then we could sneak in the front door. We didn't look as good as we do today because we didn't have the means to and some definitely didn't pass. Today there are drag shows and contests every night of the week and I've been hosting my own shows in the local drag bars for the past two years."
